Distinguished Professor Dan Shechtman is the Philip Tobias Professor of Materials Science at the Technion- Israel Institute of Technology. In 2011, he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of quasicrystals. Shechtman is also a professor at Iowa State University and a researcher at the United States Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his work including the EMET Prize in Chemistry, the Gregori Aminoff Prize of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Wolf Prize in Physics, the Israel Prize in Physics and the Weizmann Science Award. Shechtman is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, the American National Academy of Engineering and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
